I wrote this as an introspective piece in the form of my inner voice giving advice. Our newly discouraged hero (now referred to as Wonderbread) must forge a new path with a positive mental attitude that is difficult for him to comprehend at first. The narrator guides him along on his mental journey until he's finally prompted to be pro-active and do something about his crumbled state.
lyrics
Some days you're up, some days you're down
I could've sworn I saw you running sideways through the town
Well, your happy days are well on the way
Ride down that straight divide and you can come around again
Somebody calls you from across the hill
But there's no one standing there
It's all up to you if you wanna chase that thrill
But why would you even care?
Just come on through, I can't follow you
But I'm at the bottom of the stairs
And right past this door, the road's well worn
Better choose good friends to get you there
Somebody calls you from across the hill
But there's no one standing there
It's all up to you if you wanna chase that thrill
But why would you even care?
I know the answer that you're looking for
It's not the one that you think it is
It's time to roll up your sleeves and start digging
With the hands that you've been given
Oh yeah!
Wonderbread, you're always dreaming of a brighter day up ahead
I don't wonder why you're always scheming up a lighter load for your head
Don't cling too tightly to what's behind you
Time to elevate your mind
Wonderbread, you've got to build it so let's get you out of bed
Those tricks you hide behind won't save your ass this time
Gotta take a look beyond the wall
'Cause your silly grin and those sideways eyes
Won't sing sweet nothings when you fall
Somebody calls you from across the hill
But there's no one standing there
It's all up to you if you wanna chase that thrill
But why would you even care?
Some day soon I know your garden's gonna bloom
So just keep your head up and I'll see you on the moon, buddy
I know the answer that you're looking for
It's not the one that you think it is
It's time to roll up your sleeves and start digging
With the hands that you've been given
Oh yeah!
Wonderbread, you're always dreaming of a brighter day up ahead
I don't wonder why you're always scheming up a lighter load for your head
Don't cling too tightly to what's behind you
Time to elevate your mind
Wonderbread, you've got to build it so let's get you out of bed
Come on now, get out of bed
Come on now, get out of bed
Come on, come on, come on, come on
