This is the only song I envisioned as a proper acoustic ballad. It's a letter of sorts to a friend who's moved on and moved away, pooling from a few real situations in my life. It also once more applies to the album's narrative, like a farewell to the people that our hero may have left behind or been left behind by.
lyrics
I heard you're leaving for the Eastern side
Well, I hope you know we're gonna miss you
Did you get the fear that life was gonna pass you by
I wouldn't want for that to come true
Well, you left me here with kind regards for everyone
That you ever really cared for
I'll do my best to keep your garden clean
While you're gone
And who's gonna stand by my side
When I'm down at a quarter to three
And if I call out your name with my back against the wall
It ain't you that I'm gonna see, is it now?
No need to worry, I'm not stranger to the blues
I'm in no hurry to shake it
I find that lately, I don't know what to do
So I guess I'll have to fake it
Shoot me a line if you need to talk
You've got my number, come along for the walk
Everybody's gonna be just fine
Well, can't you feel it through the telephone line
I'm alright but my best friend is a long, long ways from home
You're burning bridges that you've always crossed
'Cause that's what you were taught to do
But don't forget that when you play with fire
It might just take a chunk right out of you
Well, it ain't my place at all to tell you how to be
Yes, you're one of a kind
It's just a shame that we couldn't see eye to eye
And who's gonna stand by my side
When I'm down at a quarter to three
And if I call out your name with my back against the wall
It ain't you that I'm gonna see, is it now?
No need to worry, I'm not stranger to the blues
I'm in no hurry to shake it
I find that lately, I don't know what to do
So I guess I'll have to fake it
Shoot me a line if you need to talk
You've got my number, come along for the walk
Everybody's gonna be just fine
Well, can't you feel it through the telephone line
I'm alright but my best friend is a long, long ways from home
